The Albany Development Code governs how land is developed and used in Albany. The code addresses how and where different types of uses are allowed, what development should look like, and how development may affect neighboring properties. It affects every property in the city of Albany. Much of the code was written many years ago and has been modified over time as Albany has changed. The resulting code is complicated and can be confusing.

The City did an audit of the Development Code in 2017. The audit included interviews with the development community, the Planning Commission, and the City Council, and resulted in a list of priority projects to update the code that were approved for funding beginning in July 2018.

The City has partnered with Angelo Planning Group, Portland, to complete this effort.
